Germanic Christianity

A page for a compilation of works, links, notes, research and ideas to help with the restoration of a sort of Germanic Christianity, orthodox (in the “correct” sense, so not Arian) with heroism, alliterative verse, etc., focusing on the time before the Great Schism but not limited to if relevant.

With my interest in the Gothic language and Christianity, I’ve been looking for Christian texts to translate into Gothic, specifically texts that may have been more familiar with the Christian Goths of the time, of liturgy, prayer and saints. In my search, I also wondered about translating texts from other Germanic backgrounds and came across the article Germanic Jesus by Peter Leithart. He speaks of the heroic warrior culture amongst Germanic peoples and how the Heliand was written as a way of “Christianizing heroism”. Various articles I found about the Heliand see its interpretation of the gospel as somewhat removed from Christianity, though I find the warrior language used to be somewhat similar to what I’ve seen in Orthodox Christianity Akathists. And thus, I created this page.
